Client: Private Client

Location: Bridport, Dorset

Description of Contract:

Our client, whose garden is bordered by a tributary of the River Brit, was losing a good proportion of his garden each time the river flooded during heavy rain fall. Kingcombe Aquacare were called in to inspect the site and advise on possible solutions.

Our team of revetment specialists gained access with small plant in a very confined area. Because of the sensitive surroundings, eight tonnes of large pieces of Purbeck stone were ferried from the access gate to the river with a small tracked dumper. Ramps were constructed to enable the machinery to traverse stone walls and soft ground with minimal damage.

To obtain the correct shape the river bank and bed was excavated with a small mechanical excavator. The stone was laid in layers, held in place with a concrete fill and as dug soil. The whole structure was lined to prevent any future floodwater from washing out the backfill.

Once completed, all machinery was moved out and any disturbed areas top soiled and seeded. The resulting structure provides our client with piece of mind during a flood event as well as allowing them to enjoy the full extent of their reclaimed garden
