@gordon_low one of ours too! :)
October 2010
Client: Environment Agency Location: River Brit, Bridport, Dorset Description of Contract: The River Brit has a tendency to fluctuate in level at short notice, as spate flows are carried off the surronding hills down to West Bay in the winter. This leads to serious river management issues, not the least bank erosion where the river flows through the urbanised districts of Bridport. Kingcombe Aquacare was contracted by the Environment Agency to carry out rock armour bank protection to a long reach of the Brit where it passed sheltered accommodation at Meadow Court, in Bridport. The work involved the temporary diversion of a public footpath, and necessitated working from within the river because access was not possible onto the home bank. Using our own plant and bespoke rock grab, we were able to dig back the bank and place Purbeck stone slabs, each weighing up to 1 tonne, onto a prepared bed. Each layer had been selected to provide a graded effect, and inset from the one below to provide a natural gradient to the bank. The whole length was completed on time and to budget, and to the absolute delight of the residents of Meadow Court.
