Erosion Control

Before work started, upstream

We were appointed by this developer to carry out various in channel works within a new development at Pymore Village near Bridport. The new houses are clustered around an old mill complex which is also being converted into appartments. The Environment Agency had been involved in detailed flood modeling of the site and they required work to be carried out to improve the channel flows.

Bank Revetment

Coir revetment

Bank revetment is a generic term relating to the protection of river, canal, pond or lake edges using material that is harder than the soil of the bank, so preventing or reducing erosion. "Hard" revetments which are a more robust treatment include, steel, concrete, timber or rock, whilst "soft" lake edging includes coir, timber, faggots, aquatic planting and willow spiling.

Revetment can also be used to support an edge by providing a vertical face, this can be for aesthetic reasons, giving a very architectural edge to the water or to provide deep water adjacent to the bank.

There are numerous bank revetment materials and techniques available, some of which are illustrated in the photographs below, for further advice or to discuss your particular requirements talk to Chris Keech on 01460 279 200 .
