Case Study No.1 Client: Arlington Securities Plc. Description of Contract: The client owns, develops and manages a portfolio of prestigious business parks throughout the country. A hallmark of these sites is the high standard of landscaping design and maintenance, much of it involving the imaginative use of water features. Kingcombe Aquacare was tasked to visit and inspect each feature and prepare reports on their condition together with proposals for improving and rectifying problems where appropriate. John Colton carried out surveys on a total of 31 water features, ranging from large natural lakes to small constructed ornamental pools. His final report drew attention to any common maintenance problems and identified how these might be overcome. It also made recommendations for the design of future features, so that ease of maintenance and control could be designed in at the planning stage. This information is now assisting the planning and development of new business parks as well as the maintenance of existing properties. Back To Top | Back To Consultancy Case Study No.2 Client: Friends of Old Sneed Park Nature Reserve Location: Sneed Park, Bristol Description of Contract: Sneed Park is an area of open landscape situated on the area of a medieval deer park, now totally enclosed by the urban expansion of Bristol. A small stream runs through the park down to the River Avon. It passes through a lake of approximately ½ hectare in size. Several prestigious residences look out over this lake, which serves as an important conservation feature within the landscape. Unfortunately, the lake has suffered from considerable neglect over the years. It receives the run off from many of the roads in the area, creating a siltation problem at the top end and potential heavy metal pollution. The stone faced dam also leaked in several places, particularly where trees had been allowed to grow up on the core of the dam. Kingcombe Aquacare carried out a feasibility study for the restoration of the lake on behalf of the Friends of Old Sneed Park. Because of the varied sources of funding for the project, potential work items had to be individually specified and costed, and then presented for discussion in open forum. Following on from the feasibility study, Kingcombe Aquacare was contracted to carry out the essential refurbishment of the dam and repointing of the stonework. Funds are now being sought to progress further with the desilting of the lake and pollution contro | ||||||
