When we initially arrived we were greeted by a muddy, stagnant pool, fed by a ditch carrying surface run off. There were a range of fountains and a vastly inadequate filtration system! The pool was over 2.5 metres deep with neer vertical sides. Our clients were concerned that this was a seious drowning danger to anybody taking an unexpected plunge!
Following various discussions and idea swapping we finally agreed that the priorities were as follows. The pond must be more shallow (no more than 1m), the ditch water was to be diverted so it did not enter the pond, there must be a wide marginal shelf (aesthetics and safety), the water must be clear so that the fish can be seen, there must be water movement (for interest and water quality). The first job involved us rescuing the fish. Eventually goldfish, koi and a lone grass carp were removed and stored at our headquaters. Then, under the guidance of Kingcombe Aquacare, our client carried out a lot of the preperation work. This included cleaning the pond, removing offending vegetation and old fountains etc. Once this initial work was complete our team attended on site and installed a Firestone EPDM waterproof membrane. We also installed an OASE Profiline double bank filtration system and four OASE foaming geyser fountains (with adjustable upstands, allowing the client to alter the fountain height).
When complete and filled with water we returned the fish to their new home where they soon settled in. On returning at a later date the water quality was excellent and the fish very happy! The filtration scheme was selected for its simple maintenance procedure. At the point of project hand over we demonstrated the cleaning method to the client to ensure that they were happy with the procedure.
