About the Nursery
The
Kingcombe Aquacare aquatic plant nursery has been in
operation for a full season now. Our nursery expert Trevor Kirk is
overseeing the day to day operation with the main emphasis on producing good quality strong plants that are
free from unwanted contaminents. Our Nursery in Hooke,
West Dorset is ideally suited to the propagation of aquatic plants
and we are expanding our growing area to enable us to hold
more stock.
Trevor has been
involved in the horticulture industry for many years. More recently
he has specialised in aquatic plants giving him
a sound knowledge of their propagation and care.
Why Kingcombe Aquatic
Plants?
So often you see plants with unwanted 'passengers'. The
introduction of weeds into your pond is often down to them being
introduced by accident as passengers within a plant pot containing
another plant. Examples of such unwanted, or alien, species are
Crassula helmsii (Australian Swamp Stonecrop), Lemna spp
(Duckweed) and Myriophyllum aquaticum (Parrotts Feather).
Our maintenance team spends hundreds of man hours each
year removing or herbiciding such plants, proving that their innocent
introduction can be very expensive! It is important
to check the cleanliness of the plant before purchase to verify that you
are buying only that plant!
We feel that our experienced background in aquatic weed
control enables us to realise the importance of good plant hygiene. To
this end you can have every confidence that when you
purchase one of our aquatic plants you will be buying the
best.
Something Special?
Our nursery is still young. We have taken the
decision therefore to concentrate on producing a select list of plants,
mainly in 1 litre size. Currently
we can supply most aquatic marginals and a good range of
Nymphea lilies. We have many carefully selected contacts throughout the UK
industry so if we do not stock it we can probably source it!
