A Duck flighting pond built on the side of a hill

Client:
Private Client (Landscape Architects Elizabeth Banks Associates)

Location: Foxcote Estate, Warwickshire

Description of Contract:

Foxcote Estate has been restored over recent years to become one of the foremost shooting properties in the UK. Kingcombe Aquacare has been closely involved in this project, having already cleaned out and restored three large and historic lakes on the estate.

In 2002 we were awarded the contract to construct a brand new duck flighting pond of about 0.75 hectare and with a 4m high dam on a green field site on the property. Working closely with the landscape architect Elizabeth Banks and the estate's agents Carter Jonas, we developed a plan which required specially designed shooting butts to be constructed and hidden into the landscape at intervals around the lake. These included butts actually positioned inside the heart of the dam itself. We therefore had to develop an imaginative engineering solution to ensure the concealment of the shooting positions without threatening the integrity of the dam itself.

The works well under way

Despite the novel requirements and various planning delays, the project was completed to budget and in time for the imminent shooting season.
